COMPETITION: Slava’s snow wonderland comes to Brum
After 15 years since its UK premiere, Slavas Showshow returns to Birmingham Hippodrome this November in what will be its last stop and strictly limited run in a national tour before a special white Christmas season at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
Slavas Showshow is the internationally acclaimed winner of the Time Out, Olivier and Drama Desk awards for most unique theatrical experience. It is a visual masterpiece loved by children and adults alike. A combination of theatrical clowning and stunning spectacle, Slavas Showshow is performed by a highly renowned company of clowns led by Slava Polunin.
The show creates a dream-like world where one extraordinary image melts into another culminating in a stunning finale leaving the audience literally knee-deep in snow. It is a show unlike anything you have ever seen before – a world of wonder, in which a bed becomes a boat, a web of cotton envelops the audience and one tiny piece of paper becomes a snowstorm that will, quite literally, blow you away.
Influenced by artists such as Chaplin, Marcel Marceau and Engibarov, Slava Polunin and his company has taken clowning out of the world of circus, and brought it to theatre lovers, fellow practitioners and families across the globe.
Slavas Showshow premiered in the UK in 1994 and has since toured the country, delighting audiences of all ages and winning an Olivier Award for Best Entertainment during its run at the Old Vic in 1998.
The Tony Award nominated show has won accolades the world over receiving the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Unique Theatrical Experience in 2005 and The Stanislavski Award in SLAVA’s native Russia in 2001. The show’s popularity overseas has seen it performed in 120 cities in 30 countries to more than 3 million spectators in over 4000 performances.
This is the third visit to Birmingham Hippodrome by Slavas Showshow.
As a sign above the gate leading to Slava Polunin’s Parisian home, the ‘Moulin Jaune’, says “Beware, dreams come true”…
