COMPETITION: Win tickets to see Calendar Girls in Brum
Having become the most successul play ever to tour the United Kingdom and having taken more at the box office than the original film, Calendar Girls is returning to Birmingham at the end of the month . Not only that but the award winning producers of the show, David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers, have announced that this will be the farewell tour before the amateur rights are released in September 2012.
Calendar Girls heads back to Birmingham Hippodrome on Tuesday 31 January for a five-day run, marking the fourth time in two years the play has visited the theatre.
The original Calendar Girl herself, Lynda Bellingham, returns to the show along with Jan Harvey, Sue Holderness, Camilla Dallerup, Deena Payne, Lisa Riley, June Watson and Ruth Madoc with Kevin Sacre as Lawrence the photographer and Joe McGann as John.
The female-led cast play a group of ordinary women, members of a very ordinary Yorkshire WI, who spark a global phenomenon by persuading one another to pose for a charity calendar with a difference! As interest snowballs, the Calendar Girls find themselves revealing more than they’d ever planned…
Original star of Calendar Girls, Loose Women presenter Lynda Bellingham, will be taking up her role only days after completing her stint as the Fairy Godmother in currently showing pantomime Cinderella. She’ll be joined by Howard’s Way star Jan Harvey, Sue Holderness of Only Fools and Horses‘ ‘Marlene Boyce’ fame, Emmerdale‘s longest serving female cast member Deena Payne along with fellow Emmerdale star Lisa Riley.
Kevin Sacre, who plays Lawrence the photographer, joins Calendar Girls from Hollyoaks and says he is thrilled to be joining the show as he will be touring with his wife and co-star, Strictly Come Dancing professional Camilla Dallerup. Joe McGann, who plays John will be remembered from top TV shows including comedy The Upper Hand.
Tim Firth has adapted the screenplay of his smash hit Miramax film for the stage. The film was released in 2003 and was an instant hit at the box office, becoming the number one grossing film in the UK on its release. Calendar Girls is directed by Jack Ryder with set design by Robert Jones, lighting by Tim Lutkin, costumes by Jack Galloway and music by Steve Parry. Calendar Girls is produced by David Pugh & Dafydd Rogers.
