Sacha Dhawan joins ‘Boy with the Topknot’ cast for BBC screening in Wolverhampton
Actor Sacha Dhawan has returned to Wolverhampton to join cast and crew for a special screening of new BBC drama The Boy with the Topknot.
After having recently filmed in the West Midlands city, the Iron Fist and Sherlock star was back in Wolves to officially launch a preview of the one-off feature length programme, which is based on the critically acclaimed memoir of local author and journalist Sathnam Sanghera, exploring the subject of mental illness with courage and sensitivity.
Mancunian Sacha Dhawan appears in the adaptation alongside Joanna Vanderham, who plays Sathnam’s girlfriend Laura, and veteran actors Deepti Naval and Anupam Kher, who respectively play the lead character’s parents.
Born to traditional Punjabi parents and growing up in Wolverhampton, Sathnam Sanghera (Sacha Dhawan) moves to London after graduating from Cambridge University. Now in his late 20s he is planning to reveal to his family that he will defy expectations of an arranged marriage – but instead learns a painful family secret.
Discussing the touching, humorous and emotional story of a second-generation Indian growing up in Britain and how he juggles his family, love life and career, the cast were joined by the director and producer of the drama for a special Q&A panel chaired by BBC Asian Network presenter Noreen Khan, with local luminaries and residents in attendance at the Molineux Stadium and Conference Centre.
