Hundreds of locals flocked to Edgbaston Village last weekend as Calthorpe Estates hosted its inaugural Open Weekend.

Taking place over Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th September, visitors to the debut event enjoyed special activities, demonstrations and discounts at an array of bars, restaurants, shops and attractions in and around the Village – less than a mile from Birmingham city centre.

There was something for everyone, from wine tasting sessions at Loki Wine and interior designer talks at Neptune, to storytelling at Boston Tea Party and free facials at the Westbourne Centre.

Visitors had the opportunity to get creative with faux flower workshops at OKA or pizza making classes for children at Laghi’s Deli. Blue Piano provided live Jazz music, whilst Anytime Fitness had a packed weekend planned full of free classes, competitions and giveaways.

For foodies there were some tasty events and deals on offer, including a dessert pairing with a champagne cocktail at The Edgbaston, or the opportunity meet the chefs at Simpsons and take a tour of the Michelin-starred restaurant. Visitors to El Borracho de Oro enjoyed a free portion of patatas bravas with any carafe of wine, while the younger customers were treated to complimentary churros and chocolate.

Within walking distance of Edgbaston Village, the more sporty visitors headed to Edgbaston Priory Club which held introductory squash, racket ball and cardio tennis lessons, Edgbaston Golf Club for beginners golf sessions, and Edgbaston Bowling Club for children’s bowling activities.

Nicki Gibberson, Head of Marketing for Calthorpe Estates said:

“Over the last four years Edgbaston Village has rapidly established itself as a vibrant leisure and lifestyle location, with the opening of over 30 new establishments. Our vision to create a new heart for Edgbaston with boutique, independent and quality retailers, is really taking shape.

“We wanted to host the Open Weekend to showcase how the Village has transformed into a must-visit destination and open the doors to people from the local community and neighbouring areas who hadn’t managed to visit us and experience all that Edgbaston has to offer.

“We were delighted to see so many people from across the region enjoying everything from live music and flower arranging, to storytelling, wine tasting and fitness classes – it really encompasses just how much there is to do here. And judging from the feedback we received, there’s a real demand for the Edgbaston Village Open Weekend to become an annual event – so watch this space!”
