After busting a few moves in South Africa a couple of months go, it seems old Theresa’s got her groove back, as the Prime Minister walked onto stage at the Tory conference dancing to ABBA.
Arriving on stage for her keynote speech at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham, Theresa May entered swaying and bobbing to Abba’s Dancing Queen like she was trippin’ on acid, and there was no stopping her.
While May utilised the beginning of her conference speech to poke fun at the widespread mockery her dancing antics attracted during a recent South Africa and Kenya trips in August, her ‘fresh’ moves drew even further laughter from the audience at the International Convention Centre (ICC). This was followed by wholesale mockery of the debacle on social media.
As she began her speech by reminding everyone about last year’s embarrassingly disastrous conference delivery – which was dogged by persistent coughing, a backdrop that fell apart behind her and the delivery of a ‘P45’ from a prankster mid-speech – May used humour to downplay any threats of failure this time around.
“Can I just say, you will have to excuse me if I do cough during the speech. I’ve been up all night super-glueing the backdrop,” she told conference.
While fellow Tories took to Twitter to describe Theresa May’s dancing as “classy” and “totally brill”, Labour’s Diane Abbott – who May mentioned while addressing the issue of the level of abuse that MPs and their families received – was not so impressed.
“Whoever thought that was a good idea should be sacked. I am looking at you Robbie Gibb,” wrote Abbott, referring to Downing Street’s Director of Communications.
A Twitter user commented: “She entered the Tory Party Conference swaggering to ABBA’s Dancing Queen, waving her arms about like a demented windmill.”

Tories: There's no way this year's speech can be as awful as last years
Theresa May: *Hold my beer*
BBC: And she's dancing onto stage…
Tories: Oh God she's doing the robot
BBC: You're not enjoying the dancing?

Some nice words from Tory leaders like Theresa May and Sajid Javid. Makes you wonder who was responsible for the Tory party’s relentless personal attacks in the general election campaign 2017 #CPC18 pic.twitter.com/w3Ar0dZLkA

Remarkable for the Prime Minister to dedicate so much of her speech to Labour, our leader, even our campaign slogan (and tellingly, so little to her own policies). Theresa May and the Conservatives are out of ideas, unable to defend the failed status quo they represent.

Theresa May's speeches as PM:
2016: "You 16m Remoaners are citizens of nowhere."
2017: "Cough… cough… [gets handed P45, set falls apart].. cough… cough…"
2018: "I'm taking away your right to live, work, study and retire in 31 European countries."
