Local residents in Ladypool Road, Birmingham, were left in shock after a car crashed in a 20mph zone on Sunday morning.

The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and ended up smashing through pedestrian railings and mounted the pavement in the early hours of Sunday 23 April.

The dramatic incident took place shortly after 4am with the car ending up on its side on the pavement after crashing through a traffic light post – which toppled over with the sheer force of the collision – and car parts were strewn over a wide area.

Shockingly, despite the horrific nature of the crash, authorities said no one was killed in the crash.

Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene and police cordoned off the busy road and diverted traffic as medical crews worked at the scene to see if anyone needed treatment.

A spokesperson for the Fire Service, said: “The driver of this car lost control in a 20mph zone.

“Miraculously, even at this busy time (4am) on Ladypool Road, nobody was injured.

“And yes, countless people passing-by told the driver ‘You can’t park there, mate!’”

A Police spokesperson, added: “A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs and taken into custody.”

Mr Iqbal, from Sparkbrook, told I Am Birmingham that local people are “deeply concerned” about the rise of traffic related accidents in the local vicinity.

“Street racing happens every night around here,” said Mr Iqbal.

“There’s zero care for safety. The drivers zoom up and down. Really antisocial and dangerous, and people are scared and deeply concerned about what’s going to happen as more and more young men race at night.

“I had a near miss a few nights back when a young driver nearly ran me over when his car skidded onto the pavement. It happened just around the corner from here.

“And you know what he did afterwards? He yelled at me! Swore at me! Like it was my fault for being on the pavement!

“These idiots think they’re living in a video game.

“There’s too many cars and too much congestion, and the night racing is getting worse.”
