Birmingham cyclist killed in suspected hit-and-run tragedy in Belgrave Middleway
Police have confirmed that a cyclist died yesterday afternoon in a collision that took place in Belgrave Middleway near Birmingham Central Mosque.
The tragic victim, believed to be in his 40’s, died when he was struck by a car in a suspected hit-and-run collision on Tuesday (16 May).
The tragic incident happened on Belgrave Middleway shortly after 2pm yesterday (16 May) when a man on a pedal bike was struck down by a car which failed to stop after the horrific collision.
Despite the best efforts of ambulance crews who carried out CPR, the man sadly died at the scene and a blue tent erected at the scene.
The area around Belgrave Middleway was closed off and all traffic, including public transport, was diverted while police conducted enquiries.
Sergeant Julie Lyman, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are still trying to identify the man who sadly died.
“We believe he was struck by a white Audi which we have recovered. The driver has been identified and is currently in hospital. He will be spoken to in due course.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened or who may have information which could assist us to please get in touch.”
